Mixed Martial Arts and Sports Photography

Thank you for visiting Earl Campbell Photography! I am a 38 year old photographer from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I grew up in Baltimore and moved to the Eastern Shore to be a Police Officer with the Ocean City Maryland Police Department. After spending several years as a Police K-9 Officer and undergoing major shoulder surgery, in December 2011, I resigned my position and began Earl Campbell Photography.

The majority of my work has been on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Maryland. After shooting predominantly locally for friends and family members, I decided to venture out and take on sessions and events from around Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia, Virginia and Washington DC. My career has now expanded and has taken me as far as California, Las Vegas and many other places across the country.

Being a lifelong die hard Mixed Martial Arts Cage Fighting Fan, when I started my photography career, there was no doubt that I wanted my specialty to be Mixed Martial Arts. I would always look at various local fight promotion websites and social media pages and I would notice all the photos were blurry, faded, grainy, over/under exposed, out of focus and just not professional grade quality.

I noticed that promotions, despite hiring professional photographers, were not able to obtain clear, sharp, professional grade photos to post on their websites and social media pages. I wasn't sure why the pictures weren't professional grade, but I made it my mission to find a solution and a means to offer fight promotions the highest quality in MMA photography!

I initially started out by going to local promotions and getting the best seat possible so I could get a feel for the lighting at these kinds of events. I noticed at 95% of the events I attended, the lighting was terrible and this would create problems for any camera or even the best photographer. I began studying the angles, lighting, experimented with positions, shadows and various camera settings trying to figure out what would look best for fighters and promoters. My goal was to develop the knowledge to become the best MMA Photographer in the business!

After attending countless events on my own, shooting pictures from the crowd, experimenting with different ideas and ultimately finding what I thought was a working solution, I felt confident and ready to shoot cage side. I began sending out endless emails offering my services as a photographer to local promotions to shoot their events cage side. I was given the opportunity to prove myself from several promotions, I have been fortunate to meet some amazing people and developed some great friendships with people involved in the sport I love!

I have since worked as a professional photographer for many events, I have taken thousands of photos of countless fights and I believe that I am one of the best Mixed Martial Arts Photographers on the East Coast. I think my work speaks for itself and my photos stand on their own merit.

In addition to my Mixed Martial Arts and Sports Photography, I shoot a variety of photography in my off time such as Beach Photos, Engagement Shoots, Weddings, Maternity and much more.
